Fundraising and Moving to Scoil Mhuire
Clifden Community Play-School was established as one of the first community playgroups in
Ireland by a group of local mothers, over 40 years ago, to provide care and education for
preschool aged children and is now led by a Board of Directors, registered as a Charity and
Limited Company; with a Manager and a graduate led team of Early Years Educators.
Our aim is to provide support for families with small children, to facilitate parents in their
working lives and allow access to Early Year’s Education for all.
Clifden Community Play-School has operated from the Old Boy’s School since 1992, however
we have outgrown these much loved premises and the Board of Directors and Manager have
secured a site and planning permission on the grounds of Scoil Mhuire NS for a purpose
build play-school. Within the Playschool Community there is a huge level of excitement
about this project and the prospect of a facility that will provide essential services which are
commonly available in most towns:
1. Additional Play-School morning places, from present levels of 18 to 44
2. Breakfast Club, opening at 7.45am
3. Afterschool Services for Scoil Mhuire Students from 2-6pm.
Our long term objective is to provide a centre of excellence in preschool care and education.
